Organizing a swim meet takes a lot of volunteer effort. We have great "seasoned" parents who will be more than happy to explain how a swim meet runs. Some of the jobs are listed below:
- setting up clip boards
- selling t-shirts, raffle tickets
- selling heat sheets
- timing
- cleaning up!!!
Frequently used swim words:
- heat sheet - a program that lists the event number and lane information to tell you when your child is swimming.
- seed time - this is a time from a previous swim meet (your child's fastest time to date) that is used to place the swimmer in a particular heat and lane.
- short course pool - a pool that measures 25 yards in length (like the Habersham pool).
- long course pool - a pool that is 50 meters long.
- disqualification, "DQ" - the swimmer did not meet the requirements to legally swim the stroke of the event. It could be due to incorrect kicking technique, arm movements, false starts, incorrect turns...
